Why Steel?

When architects are selecting products to specify for their building’s design, they are constantly leveraging code compliance, aesthetics, and the best long-term value for the owners they represent. Why do they rely on steel doors and frames to deliver the best mix of these and other very important considerations?

Steel doors create great value. The inherent strength and durability of steel mean that the product lasts for a very long time compared to alternative materials. This longevity creates a low cost of ownership because the doors and frames are still operating in good condition when other materials may require replacement more often.

Steel doors are environmentally responsible. Daybar doors and frames are made from our continent’s most recycled raw material - steel. The amount of recycled steel in North America is greater than that of paper, plastic, and aluminum combined. Steel is recycled 47% more than paper, the number two most recycled material on the continent.

Steel doors deliver exceptional performance. Steel door openings can bare up to 3hr. fire ratings and withstand higher structural design pressures, providing protection in areas regularly impacted by severe storms. In addition to these interior and exterior protections, there are several security benefits to using hollow metal doors and frames. Steel door construction is stronger than that of wood and other materials helping to prevent forced entry. With extensive testing, Daybar is proud to offer steel doors and frames that are compliant with the Florida Building Code, Miami Dade, Texas Department of Insurance, as well as FEMA. In general steel doors provide more sound attenuating qualities, better thermal resistance options, and are more versatile than other competing door materials.

Codes and Standards

As the world builds smarter and more intelligent structures, an opportunity exists to improve compliance to the evolving codes and standards that make buildings safer, more efficient, and longer lasting than ever before. Daybar is continually testing products to ensure that the highest level of quality and performance are achieved.
